Paul Newman’s widow Joanne Woodward ignited fears she’s near death when she was a no-show at a recent benefit at the Westport Country Playhouse in Connecticut, which she and Paul supported for years.
Clea Newman, 49 – one of the couple’s three daughters – attended in her 84-year-old mother’s place, sources said.
“There were whispers that Joanne is at death’s door,” a party guest told The National ENQUIRER.
“Everyone hoped she’d make an appearance, but now she can’t even come out.”
Paul died from cancer in 2008 at age 83. They married in 1958.
Joanne, who is ravaged by Alzheimer’s disease, hasn’t been seen at events since early 2013.
