In Raleigh, N.C. the Democratic congressional primary race between former American Idol success story CLAY AIKEN and his opponents remains too close to call.

Aiken and his opponent textile magnate Keith Crisco each had about 40 percent of the vote trailer by a third family counselor Toni Morris.

The primary winner will challenge incumbent GOP Tea Partier U.s. Rep Renee Elmers this November who was swept into office in the 2010 Tea Party wave.

As The ENQUIRER previously reported the openly gay Aiken despite his show biz career has been advocate for childcare reform in the state and is bucking he odds in his campaign.

On the campaign trail Aiken said the media are the only ones asking about whether or not his status as a gay man may impede his election prospects in a very conservative community.
