Distressed CYNDI LAUPER planned leap to death despite her “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” mantra.
The 1980s pop star was so depressed after hitting rock bottom that she considered taking her own life by jumping from a New York City hotel balcony.
In her candid new biography, “Cyndi Lauper: A Memoir,” the “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” singer opens up about the dark times she endured before becoming an international sensation with the release of her 1983 album, “She’s So Unusual.”
“I nearly killed myself,” Cyndi reveals in the book. “The only thing that always prevented me from suicide is that I never wanted a headline to read: ‘Girl who wanted to have fun just didn’t.’
“It was such a dark time for me. I thought the sadness would never go away.”
